The revised statues of Missouri have this to say in the definitions section
of Chapter 571, section 010(12)'"Knife", any dagger, dirk, stiletto, or
bladed hand instrument that is readily capable of inflicting serious
physical injury or death by cutting or stabbing a person. For purposes of
this chapter, "knife" does not include any ordinary pocketknife with no
blade more than four inches in length;'
Therefore, at least in Missouri, a pocket knife with a blade less than four
inches in length, is, by definition, not a knife, and from inference in
following sections, since a knife is a weapon, a pocket knife would not be.
As far as TSA regulations are concerned, cigarette lighters, bottles of
shampoo, etc. are prohibited, but are not considered weapons by anyone.
