Re: ping failure Was a commit/reconcile done everywhere? I suspect that your hosts file is messed up. Re: omget/select These tools do not use IP based communications. You have two entire nodes in a test lab? I have a test lab with one P92 at v8.2 and one SunBlade 1500 at 7.1, with a single Mesh switch connecting them. The SunBlade is going through a NCNI and RCNI and there is an ATS that connects to the Mesh switch. The P92 and an associated FCP270 go directly to the switch, of course. All IP communications work between the two hosts - ping, telnet, ftp, etc. I am using the Mesh for this traffic because I don't have a switch to connect the 3rd ethernet ports. It's just a test lab anyway, so there is no danger if the Mesh switch chokes on the traffic. I regularly ftp files back and forth, use VNC, and I've even been successfully testing rexec and rsh lately. What does your setup look like?
