You can change the default editor for your shell. For cshell edit .cshrc (note the period) EDITOR=VI so that when you enter the command crontab -e you will be using vi and not the "e" editor which is a very difficult editor. Terry While the method you list will work, when you use crontab -e, you're using the old "ed" editor. When "ed" first came out it was considered to be very user friendly - if it didn't understand something you typed it said "?" <grin>. My method will let you use vi or textedit on a normal text file and then reload it to crontab when you're done. It'd also be a good idea to save a copy of the crontab before changing it - crontab -l > /opt/home/crontab.save or something similar depending on where you normally save files to.
