Subject: [drivingpairs] Tandem

Well, it would appear that I have a tandem! <VBG>
Today, at the Marsoe LaRose clinic at Deb Packard's Clay Station Horse Park
in beautiful uptown Wilton, CA, I took advantage of the supply of
experienced help to try out my newish pony as a tandem wheeler. Following
the "putting to" routines we have talked about on the Pairs List the last
couple of days fellow tandem driver Jane Moody and I dressed the girls and I
warmed up Jazz a little until Marsoe was through with his earlier lesson.
We then added Filly on the front, carefully checking fit and clearances as
we went. It appeared that all was in order, so Marsoe joined me on the box
and away we went.

No problems. No trauma. LOTS of smiles! We did lots of walking, easy
trotting and kept looping around the property, making big sweeping turns to
build confidence in the ponies.

Marsoe drove for awhile and offered some guidance. Then I got down, put
Jane in the groom's seat so I could watch from the ground. Then we switched
and Marsoe observed from the ground. We were looking for fit, proper
distances between leader and wheeler, way of going (do they match), and
general fit of the two ponies to the idea of a tandem. With a few minor
changes to gear (trace length, etc.) it seems like they go together well
enough to pursue the program.

While Marsoe was watching, I drove most of the Prelim Test 4 dressage test,
and I was very pleased at how well they did. No where near competitive
level, but that will come! <V,VBG>

So....... Look out world, here comes a salt and pepper tandem of Welsh
Ponies. WHEEEEEE!

Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, because you are crunchy and taste
good with ketchup.

And I STILL drive too fast to worry about cholesterol!
