There is a later version of Font Directory Professsional, albeit still dated
2003 (5/11/2003): 3.11 beta, which I have been using without problems since
Adrian Look sent it to me. IIRC that version fixed a problem that 3.10
sometimes had with shonky fonts.

There was another font manager ISTR, wonder what happened to that.

It's somewhat confusing because of using abbreviations!

The program Dave referred to initially is Easy Font Pro (EFP) -
whereas I've been referring to the alternative program, Font
Directory, by Adrian Look of LOOKsystems. His Font Directory
Professional (FDP) is v. 3.10 of 2003; at least, that's the version
I've got.

I think I have never had enough fonts to need a font manager,
perhaps the facilities in OP would be better if I'd hit this
 problem.

I find that with DTP work on a parish mag I use a particular selection
of fonts, whereas for most of the time I use a different selection.
Each can easily be chosen via FDP.

E.g. it'll scan an OvPro document and supply all fonts missing,
preventing the dreaded warning 'XXX font missing: substitute/stop
loading'. On the other hand it doesn't swamp you with every font
you've ever acquired and make you struggle with a vast list in
choosing the one you want. You can narrow or widen the list shown in
OvPro with ease.

The other thing is, that if you're not sure which font is which, you
can choose to list the fonts - lumped together or segregated into
different categories of your own naming, e.g serif or script or
headline - with its name displayed in its own font. Or you can display
a specific font in its entirely, at any size, to see what it looks
like or whether it's got all the characters. (The Pro version is much
more flexible in this, but as I mentioned will only work with ADFS, so
VRPC needs a bit of easy tweaking.)

I'm a fan of OvPro but couldn't cope without a font manager. However,
a font manager works with all programs so there's no need for this
extra facility in OvPro.
