I've encountered somewhat similar problems during the current beta cycle.
Thus far, I can't pin them down enough to provide any meaningful
documentation of how or when they occur.

No I am absolutely sure that wasn't the case. When I lock mine it beeps
when I press any keys and there was no sound at all. I always know which
way the BP is positioned before I touch it.

Rick,
My guess is that you had the BP upside down and pressed the 1 and 3 keys,
which is the command to lock the system. I have done this a couple of times
myself.
