Sometimes, my Bookport tries to speak the message about a half hour passing
that ask you to press the read key to continue, but the DoubleTalk speech
doesn't come out. Actually, it turns out the speech is there at a very low
volume. If I press any key during that process, it does seem to lock up. I
have found that if I wait for a while, I will hear a click or a pop and I
can then press keys successfully. This happens infrequently.

This isn't a lockup.

Hi,

I have had a couple of lockups not waiting for the BP to shut down on
anything but text files. Seems to me its just safer to wait for the double
beep.

Rick:

To clarify, you don't have to wait for shutdown after stopping an audio
file, unless the speech is distorted or silent. If you don't want to wait,
just press 2 twice; this will often clear things up.

This is not specific to your Book Port, but rather an issue that has been
with us since the beginning. If you wait for the double-beep shutdown, then
you will be able to press any key thereafter, and it should work.

Hi,

All I can add is that I am not using a beta version of the firmware and the
3 lock up's that I have had since purchasing my BP have been when playing
audible books or other MP3's. I am wondering if you have to wait while the
BP turns off after pressing the stop button before you can safely press any
buttons?

I've also notice the BP's speech synth getting garbled if you don't wait for
it to go off after listening to audible books.

I've encountered somewhat similar problems during the current beta cycle.
Thus far, I can't pin them down enough to provide any meaningful
documentation of how or when they occur.

Hi Doug,

No I am absolutely sure that wasn't the case. When I lock mine it beeps
when I press any keys and there was no sound at all. I always know which
way the BP is positioned before I touch it.

Thanks

Rick

  Rick,

My guess is that you had the BP upside down and pressed the 1 and 3 keys,
which is the command to lock the system. I have done this a couple of times
myself.
