Hi Lori, As well as the privacy issue, I agree completely with you. I have been a volunteer for about five years, and several times when I proofread a book of interest to me I contacted the submitter and asked if that person would let me know when they had a certain type of book available or simply stated that I would be glad to proofead some of their future submissions. I have developed several good working relationships through this method. Also, if someone wants a proofreader for a specific type of book that request can be mentioned on the volunteer list. Sure it takes a while to develop working relationships, but whatever happened to human interaction. Creating a list to pair submitters and proofreaders seems to me to be a beaurocratic nightmare. We are not allowed to decide who gets our credits, and now we must submit our names to a list!! The free spirit volunteering used to have is gone!!!! Personally, I do not like being controlled to this point! It sounds like it would be harder to manage than I hoped, but perhaps if Madeleine puts the lists together, at least we can contact Bookshare staff and ask who might be interested in partnering on particular projects. It doesn't sound as efficient that way. What I was hoping for was more efficiency in the process so that someone with an idea could contact someone who could partner. Perhaps it will grow over time.
