It wasn't confusing at all to me and it makes very good sense as well. That's usually the way I do them which is only occasionally! (LONG) I was reading the example page on a braille display, even though I generally tend to listen to my books, just because it's faster that way. I think if, once you got down to the actual footnotes, their was a corresponding number before each footnote, it would be less confusing than multiple stars. example: *7 "whatever footnote 7 says" *8 "whatever footnote 8 says" But don't include the quotes; I just put those there to try and make sure everyone understood that I was referring to footnote 8. Anyway, maybe that was too confusing, but multiple stars would confuse me if I were reading in braille because what if there were more than 3 stars? Then I might think what followed after the 3 stars that were being used to say that the following text corresponded to the third footnote on the page was actually the main text. Hopefully that wasn't too confusing.
