Regarding the differences in how Americans and British speak, I read a
series where one character was American and the other was British.
There were moments where the British character would use an expression
that might occur in American english, but the British meaning was very
different. For example, the British character was complementing the
American character on how she looked, and he called her "dinky". In
American english, dinky isn't complementary, but apparently in British
english it is. I thought it was cool that the author of this book took
the time to research British expressions.
