An astronomy club I maintain my membership with (back in IL) does not have a mail-list/freelist so they utilize a Yahoo group. I set it up to fwd posts to my Outlook which saves me from logging in to Yahoo to check postings. It works great for sharing all sorts of data (not just images). As Dick is willing to drive this bus, let's roll it out and see where it goes. Worst thing that can happen is that it doesn't serve the purpose as well as initially thought and it is abandoned. Best case - we get yet another great chance to share info/data/etc and learn something new from this great amateur community. This would not replace our current e-lists, but would supplement them." Tom stated: "The "AZ" in AZ-Observing stands for Arizona, not Saguaro Astronomy Club. It was never intended to be a SAC discussion list. That's why SAC-forum exists. In fact, this discussion of a SAC forum shouldn't be taking place on AZ-Observing at all, and yet here I am perpetuating it." The AZ-Observing list is for ANYONE that wants to subscribe, therefore any club be it SAC, EVAC, PAS, or DFAC can be mentioned or discussed in the list as they are in Arizona, so Tom is not guilty of perpetuating anything. The original intent of the lists be it AZ-Observing, SAC forum or SAC Board is to convey information. That is what a Yahoo forum would do as well, not replace or cause the demise of any of the lists. Look at it this way, a Yahoo forum might increase the interest in astronomy as there are many many very talented members in all the valley clubs.EVAC does a great job for public education, DFAC is doing a great job on public awareness of light pollution, SAC is great on members star parties. PAS is the oldest club in the valley and is the parent club of ALL THE VALLEY CLUBS !!! What Richard purposes is a supplemental list that is another tool to promote astronomy. From what I have seen on the new format of the newsletter I think Richard is on the right track plus he is willing to take on the responsibility of the forum. Lets back him and move forward on this issue. This will more than likely cause upset for some of the hardcore members, but remember time move on and those that cannot perish.
