Again I am not sure but I have a vague memory that you cannot apply for =
a
clearance unless you are actually 'in-the-job'
Horse and cart
Chicken and egg

Maybe I am wrong--

There are quite a few Canberra TWs out there who should be able to =
answer
this one more accurately???

Hi Deborah,

Out of curiosity, can I ask how one would go about getting a security
clearance? It might be a handy thing to have in my bureau drawer just in
case some work of this type comes up.

Thanks and regards
Andrea

Well I know that a security clearance at Defence can take months to =3D
process, so if the position is short term someone without a clearance =
=3D
won't be able to start in time.

Much easier/faster for them to employ someone who already has the =3D
clearance.
Also much cheaper because they don't have to pay for the clearance =3D
process if someone already has one.
Perhaps they should advertise well in advance to give them the =3D
opportunity to wait for a clearance if need be?

I guess you could always put your resume in and tell them you are =3D
prepared to pay for the clearance if they are prepared to wait the time =
=3D
it will take?
