Generally I agree; but I strongly doubt it is my case. The setup I use is 
practically glare-free.
The behavior can be checked with synthetic targets, having zero flare.

Using -aG, the shadows are OK; -ag has neutrality issues.  -ax does not exhibit 
shadow issues too.
