What I'm looking at is the new external flash-based HDDs ... that's for down the road, however. <G>Do you mean the ubiquitous "memory sticks"? But how long can they store data without errors? The only "no moving parts" devices I know that really were permanent were the fusible link PROMs, but they were mostly limited to less than 1 Kb of data.
No ... not the pen drives. Referred to as "Solid State Disk" by some mfrs. They come both external (with USB connection) and internal in a 2.5" HDD form.
These are stats on one internal model MIC. * Fully SATA II compatible * Non-volatile flash memory for outstanding data retention * Built-in ECC (error correction code) function and wear-leveling * Algorithm ensures highly reliable of data transfer * Low power consumption * Shock resistance * High read and write speed up to 130Mbps * Storage capacities: 8 to 64GB * SATA 7 and 15 pins combo connector * Input voltage: 5V * Power consumption (write): 210 to 230mA * Power consumption (read): 170 to 190mA * Power consumption (standby): 110 to 120mA * Dimensions: 100 x 69.85 x 9.5mm * Weight: 48g * Operation temperature: 0 to 70 degree CelsiusTigerDirect.com and CompUSA sell 12GB USB 'Micro Hard Drives' for about $86;TigerD has 32GB Solid State Hard Drives from $190, 64GB from $230
