Hi Mary! On the "starter special" - the idea is for us to break even, get the company logo digitized and have it on hand for future orders. We use the most basic of the outerbanks polos and offer people the opportunity to upgrade. Most times, people come back or at least refer business to you. We will only do a normal left chest logo, and have found that with the company we use for contract digitizing, most run about $35-40 max if you aren't in a hurry. So, the shirts usually run about $8. With shipping, it's about $65 our cost. Ok, maybe we make a TINY bit... But again, the idea is to get the business relationship rolling more than anything. Another route to go is to use the Steadman from Hanes shirts. We have found them to be nice quality for a basic polo and dirt cheap - like $4-5. We have a number of companies we have sewn for that are on tight budgets and they have been VERY pleased with those. We're still new, so it's important to get our work out in the community. We also make a practice of giving out a catalog with every order ($1 our cost from one of our suppliers) and including a couple business cards. On work we do for Schools or Swim teams, we tag each shirt with a business card using one of those guns that they use in department stores (available from most craft stores). Usually, we put the business card on the shirt collar label so as not to disturb the fabric. I think sometimes, people think that we are just coordinating the sale of the item, and not actually producing them!
