Dave Whilst I am by no means an expert on this topic, several of our staff (who are not in the office as I type) have been working with the Olympus DS-40 Digital Voice Recorder and Dragon with regard to transcribing audio. I am led to understand that this is reasonably successful but I am not totally aware of the process involved or the degree of accessibility. The recorder was designed with assistance from the RNIB, I believe, such that it has very tactile controls and voice announcements of navigation and also plays Window Media Audio and MP3 files and Podcasts. The members of staff that I refer to have also carried out some initial scripting of the Olympus software on the PC for use with JAWS. Please contact me off list if I can be of further assistance. Dave Digital dictation is now not entirely uncommon, use with DAISY may however be a noval development but MP3 based or portable digital dictatphone based transcription is becoming more popular. One thing you would have to bear in mind is that where are dictation to Dragon is normally an interactive process where you may need to correct errors as they crop up working from tape, MP3 or whatever medium means this process would have to take place afterwards. I can forseee that because such errors with speech input may become (for reasons of context) cumilative that could increase unintelligablity of some passages of work. Regards. Interesting notion, I wonder if it's possible, I'm sure listers will tell us why it's a crazy idea?!! I have never tried and would like to hear from anyone who has. Thanks in advance. Dave Hi All, Been off list for quite a while now so lost touch a bit with what's happening, good to be back and see the list is as active as ever! After some suggestions for a hardware mp3 player / recorder that I can use to give to my personal reader to record audio onto and then for me to quickly & easily dump onto my hard drive for storage & playing back on my bookcourier / pc. It doesn't necessarily have to be fully accessible for me as it will be used by a sighted person but it must be easily syncable with my pcc and be able to record up to record / store up to 5 hrs worth of mp3 at a time. I already have a plexter ptr2 which is great but I don't want to give this to my reader to take away and leave me without the rest of the time. I do have an old Olympus dm1 recorder but I've never found it easy to sync and get files off and if my memory servies me right (which is no guarantee!) it tends to default to recording in WAV format. Anyway your suggestions greatly appreciated.
