James and all, I absolutely never gave this a thought, so thanks for the reminder. Sorry for suggesting such a stupid thing.

Hi all, note that depending on what processor is in the netbook, having a high amount of RAM may not help. You've got to think about the read and right speeds of the hard drive, and the speed of the processor. If you had a 500 MHZ processor for example, no matter if you had 1 or 10 GB of RAM Vista would still not perform very well.

That's what I said. If someone upgrades to 2GB of RAM virtualization, even
for Vista guests, will run fine despite the slow performance you get with
virtualization.

Yes, but don't virtualize on the netbook, because if you have 1gb ram, it
won't let you run vista, cause you need to give the virtual machine at
least 1gb, and you have only one gb, and it's used by your real computer.
The virtual machine uses your real ram and hard drive space for storring
the virttual hard disks.

Yes. Vista would be too slow for 1 GB of RAM, even if it's the recommend
amount. 2 GB is excellent for best results. Also, he could run
virtualization software and create a virtual machine and operate Vista
that way. Actually, virtualization is strongly recommended since you
don't need to think about hardware and software requirements like you
would have to if you were installing Vista for real.

Maybe you will be able to use Vista but the guy in Curry's said to me
that Vista would be too slow on the NC10. Maybe he meant with the 1GB
RAM.

Hi. Is it possible to install Vista on a netbook? I'm thinking of
getting a netbook and want to use Vista on it. I know I'll have to
increase the RAM to 2GB to get a decent performance out of it but I don't
know if these Netbooks are built to have Vista installed on them. I will
be browsing for a netbook and the Samsung NC10 will be amongst my
thoughts. I think it will be a toss up between the NC10 and the Advent
4213 which is a mobile broadband netbook as it has a simcard slot. Both
machines are priced the same at £322.96.
