you read 1.7 million correctly.it seems to me that whenever an advance comes on the market for blind people, it soon disappears as the companies either seem very shaky financially, or fail to recognise the market they are getting into. I wonder how those who donate to the RNIB feel about their wasting money in this manner.
Hope to hear from you soon. From Martin. email. m.wilsher@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx twitter: www.twitter.com/bigpawedbear website: www.martin-wilsher.co.uk----- Original Message ----- From: "Jackie Cairns" <jackie.cairnsplace@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>

I thought I read £1.7m, but it seemed too fanciful.I'm not bashing RNIB, but I can't understand why they collaborated with thiscompany when it had already been in administration if what I have read is correct? Surely anybody worth their savvy would have checked out the legalities before entering into such a costly venture. If they worked with Goodmans on a Freeview box with speech, I wonder why it wasn't possible for them to enhance that setup by producing the same HDD boxthat TVonics has produced? Then there is Panasonic with its TVs that incorporate speech. I wonder why RNIB, if they assisted in this development, couldn't have negotiated further to produce the said Freeview recorder?I know it's never that simple, and perhaps Panasonic and Goodmans wanted toomuch money, or weren't prepared to go down that road for whatever reason. But it begs the questions don't you think people? Just my tuppence. As I recall when the recorder came on the market and was being discussed on this list, someone from RNIB did send a mail to this list all about this 1.5 million invested.I have it here and have copied the relevant parts below. £1.7 MILLION is ahelluva lot, even at the £200 per hour they say they pay their consultants, that's 4 consultants at £200 per hour working 8 hour days for an entire yearon this. So, yes, I'm as keen as anyone to know what this library looks like. Anyway, here's the email: From: "Long, Alison" <Alison.Long@xxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Wednesday, May 16, 2012 2:22 PMTvonics have been supported by RNIB financially and with other expertise todeliver what they have; RNIB invested 1.7 million pounds in the delivery of a technical library. This we did after establishing that the industry believed what we were asking for was completely impossible, technically not viable, and we had exhausted discussions with Europe and government with regard to funding. (I was told by technical experts at the European digital TV level that it was impossible to conceive of talking TV for at least 15 years). ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq
