Hi Folks,

I am trying out Get iPlayer using various functions in the command line.

I used the Archers as a sample program for download. However, it seems that you can only download the same program once as I got a message saying that it was already in your download history.

Is it possible therefore to clear the download history. I can't seem to find a file or folder referring to history.

Many thanks for any assistance you can give.

I was proved wrong again. Strangely my version defaults to WMA; do I have
the latest version?

Hi.
Since you're downloading mainly speech, then, you should have no worry about
losses in transcoding. A quick search for get_iplayer MP3 on google brought
me to https://github.com/dinkypumpkin/get_iplayer/wiki/manpage
which has all the options you can use. To make get_iplayer put out an
MP3 file, just add
--aactomp3
in your command line. For example, if you wanted to get program 12000 in
MP3, you would type get_iplayer --get --aactomp3 12000 If you wanted to get
all radio programs with the word horse in their names, you would type
get_iplayer --get --type=radio --aactomp3 horse Note the usual double dash
before the aactomp3 command. Note also that if you're using an iPod or most
phones as an MP3 player, m4A should be supported natively.
I hope that's of use.

Hi Aman

Many Thanks for your advice.

I'm really only interested in downloading radio 4 programs from
get_iplayer and would like to listen to the downloads on an mp3 player
if that is possible.

best wishes

Hello, Henry.
I'm sorry, but I know of no guide to download the programs in MP3
directly. Personally, I have never bothered with this, simply because
the files are downloaded in M4A, which is a container for AAC. AAC is
what the BBC sends out, and changing one lossy format to another
reduces audio quality. In any case, AAC is a better format than MP3 in
all things except compatibility, and is supported by the vast majority
of players. You can, if you want MP3, use something like CDEX or NCH's
Switch application to change the format to MP3. There may also be a
way to do this in get_iplayer itself, but I'm not sure how this can be
done.
Sorry to be a broken reed on this.

Hi Aman

Many thanks, I'm now beginning to build up a mental picture of the
screen containing the command line within get_iplayer.

Please could you signpost me to a helpful guide on how to download
bbc radio
4 programs in an mp3 format?

best wishes

Henry

Hello.
Use the Jaws cursor in the command line get_iplayer. You are quite
right, Jaws does not properly read the text from the command line,
but by using the Jaws cursor to read the screen, you can see what has
happened all over the screen. The jaws read-line command will, when
using the PC cursor, read you the current line of the screen, so
accessing that is not a problem.

Hi Deddajay

Please could you advise which is the best solution for someone using
Jaws V11, either use the command line within get_iplayer or the
search link within web pvr manager? When I run get_iplayer I'm not
sure where jaws is focosed.

best wishes

Henry

Hi Colin

I just typed "johnnie Walker" and "three act tragedy". Today's
Sounds of the 70's downloaded no problem, and all 5 episodes of
Poirot downloaded. The first episode of the Poirot series doesn't
have Poirot in the title so it wouldn't have been found if I'd used
it.

I've been playing with this all day today, working out various
combinations
of commands. I've found that once an episode has downloaded it won't
download again unless you add the command --force. It's no where
near as convenient as Radio Downloader but at least it works. I've
set up a word doc with various combinations of commands so that I
can just paste and copy into Get-iplayer, having made any
adjustments needed first.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Greetings,

You advise us to type:

get_iplayer --type=radio --get "name of program"

what format is the program name?

Let us say I want to get hold of Sounds of the Seventies from Radio
2 for Sunday 2013 06 30, what exactly would I enter in the field
where the program being desired is placed? How intelligent is the
program? I assume also
it
will get the latest of any program so, for instance, if I want a
program
in
five episodes such as one of the series on R4E such as in the crime
and thrillers, how accurate do I have to be? I may wish to obtain
part 3 broadcast last Wednesday but now, it is Monday morning.

A case in point is "Poirot 3 Act Tragedy" which was as shown on the
R4E website, if I simply put as above, what, if anything is given?
Obviously,
the details then go on to say "Episode 3" and on the next line on
the website it gives the strapline associated with part 3.

Also, the program is first on Wednesday at 6:00, then 13:00, then
20:00
and
finally Thursday at 01:00.
