Hello
I just wanted to clarify a few things on direct debit. We have withdrawn the
facility to pay for products by direct debit. This was paying the full amount
of your purchase 21 days after despatch rather than spread over monthly
payments. It affects a small number of our customers.
It definitely isn’t due to security issues. However, we do have some issues
with system integration affecting direct debit collection that we’re working
on. We will continue to offer rolling direct debit for subscription services
like Newsagent and this should be back up and running soon.
We are acutely aware that customers affected may not know their direct debit
hasn’t been collected and we will be in touch proactively with them to discuss
this.
If you pay for products on direct debit, you can call the Helpline on 0303 123
9999 or email helpline@xxxxxxxxxxx<mailto:helpline@xxxxxxxxxxx> and ask them to
check your balance.
Regards
Alison

To be fair with other companies the direct debit is like a standing order which
changes but from what I understand this appears to be a one off thing when you
buy something.

Hi George,
Other organisations, such as banks, energy companies and companies who sell
goods paid for by monthly direct debit have no problem, so whilst I reckon
you’re probably right, I can’t help wondering whether the RNIB might have
introduced an excessively drastic solution to a simple problem. What payment
methods, both online and off, do the RNIB now accept?
Best,
Clive

I suspect it’s a matter of security one way or the other.

Hi Henry,
I don’t but it’s weird. If they used GoCardless, then their transaction fees
would be less than those of a credit card, so I don’t understand it.
We do have the direct debit facility by the way, as I do use GoCardless <Smile>.
All the best
Steve

Good Evening Folks
I called the RNIB shop this afternoon to order some Loc Dots and was told that
I could no longer use my direct debit facility as this has now been withdrawn
by the RNIB to all customers. The RNIB representative was very apologetic and
vague.
I therefore paid for my goods using my credit card.
Does anyone know why the Direct Debit service has been withdrawn?
Best wishes
Henry
