I should have added that if you are downloading files, it pays to keep your disk drive defragmented. A disk drive developes empty spaces when data is deleted for one reason or another, and when data is being written to it, it will usually fill up all the empty spaces first. Consequently it's running around all over the place, working like mad, and indeed you will often hear this drive activity. Defragmentation re-organises your data and fills up these gaps, very often resulting in a noticable improvement in overall performance. There is only so much data that can flow down that pipe at any one time. Also, bear in mind that at such high speeds of transfer, your PC is working like mad writing data to the disk as well as doing other things. We currently have three filters instead of 4 since we have 4 phone lines. If I download a file, the rest of the internet is slow. This is regardless of how we connect, wireless or ethernet. Hope this helps. -- Chris Hallsworth Derbyshire, UK e-mail: christopherhallsworth71@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx msn: ch9675@xxxxxxxxxxx Skype: chrishallsworth7266 I'm not sure what you mean. Let me try and figure out what you are saying. Are you saying that before you put all the filters in that your spead suffered? Regards. Can I ask, is this why the sppeed is reduced when I download a file, such as Skype, off the internet? Because now I've done downloading the speed's gone back to how it was before I started downloading. Thanks again, and sorry for all the questions. -- Chris Hallsworth Derbyshire, UK e-mail: christopherhallsworth71@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx msn: ch9675@xxxxxxxxxxx Skype: chrishallsworth7266 As long as you have filters in all the extentions that you have in the house, you should be fine. However, when my dad tries to ring out we hear a crackling kind of noise. Do we need to buy another DSL filter? Also, as I'm connected via wireless there's a slight delay with audio streams. Is this because Sky's still making final adjustments to our setup? I must say it's a very good connection and the wireless hasn't dropped once yet. Thanks in advance for answering my question. -- Chris Hallsworth Derbyshire, UK e-mail: christopherhallsworth71@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx msn: ch9675@xxxxxxxxxxx ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq No virus found in this incoming message.
