One trick that we use to get people to respond is to include in our policies
a storage fee. After two weeks from notification, we start charging a daily
fee for storage. We rarely have to apply it. Just a reminder of it
motivates people to pick things up. As for the NSF problem, we rarely see
it, but when we do, we will not give the client the estimate nor complete
the repair until we have the money. Perhaps we will modify our storage
policy to include time that we spend trying to collect in the storage fee
calculation.

We are lucky because we focus on the high end of the market and our people
are very careful. Anytime we get a low account number or a client that loks
flaky we verify funds before proceeding with the work or returning the set,
if possible. We always verify ID and write down the driver's lic #, which
is required for the DA to pursue it if it gets that far. We also encourage
such clients to use a credit card. Just remember that if you don't get the
client's signature and physically verify the card and the identity of the
user, you are more likely to be liable for a chargeback. If your voucher
and completed service order are signed, you have all you need in the US to
get the CC company to refuse the customer's dispute.

Always keep the control and you can't go wrong. When you have the set or
light box you have the contol.Pick up the rest of the set if you have a bad
feeling. Just tell the customer that on this repair you need the rest of the
TV.Don't deliver till you have the cash. If he doesn't come to your shop and
pay for it, send him a register letter.
giving him a dead line.Very few stores will accept personal checks and they
know that.Debit or credit card.
