You'd probably have quite a bit of support on ASLs, and possibly for flashing amber. But as far as red/amber is concerned (currently being reviewed in UK anyway) I have to say that I can see little or no case for removing it. Without it signal lost time would undoubtedly increase, coordination on short links would become much more uncertain /inefficient for drivers, and it would be a nightmare for peds walking 'late' in the clearance period. On its own I'm not sure that 'the Europe consistency argument' is a good enough reason for us to change - in any case they use red/amber in Germany.
