I haven't seperated the boxes yet. But given this info I may try tonight! So
theoretically I should be able to leave the stub axle alone and just split the
box pull the upper bearing and gear and I should be able to remove the axles?

I think it's just a "c" clip that holds the outer bearing on.
Pretty sure if you remove the clip you can get the axle off.
I did this at my house, no puller there.
The only time I had to use a puller was after the stub axle was off, and
I had to get a bearing off, and the new one on.
Do you have the boxes separated yet?
I know you have to remove the piece that is connected to the transaxle
(donut thing, that the axle tube goes through).
Been too damn long since I've done this, memory foggy.
Come on Will or Sammie, chime in.

If you look at the top bearing, after you remove the tube retainer from
the transaxle (donut thing mentioned earlier), you should be able to hit
the box with a mallet and it should come off.
