The drive axle retains the drive gear by a snap ring. You'll need snap ring
pliers. The gear is pulled off and the axle can slip
past the housing. Remember, the upper outer bearing also has an
interference fit on the end of the drive axle so you should
use a two jaw puller to pull the housing and bearing past the end of the
axle.
Once this is done you can remove the snap ring that holds the side gear
assembly out of the transaxle.
