These breed of dogs were bred from animals having naturally weak  ears...in 
studies done in the 20's and 30's, hanging ears were proven dominant  over 
erect ears, but this is not to say that eventually ears would not regress  to 
being erect. They would. Just about all wild carnivore animals that have ears  
to 
speak of have erect ears. The better to hear you with, my dear!    Syd
