Try looking at it as someone who knows little or nothing about the breed as some new judges and those new to the breed. I probably will offend someone, (so, what else is new?), but if you are using the Illustrated Standard to plan your breeding, I would suggest you not do it. The way to learn to breed is to talk to other breeders. What you see is not what you get. The Illustrated Standard is not to help with breeding, but to show what to look for in the show ring when judging. I don't think it was ever meant for the breeders. If you don't understand the genetics of this breed, no written document is going to help you with that. Using the Illustrated Standard to plan a breeding is as good as reading a pedigree and deciding what to breed to by what you read. It is like trying to teach a pig to sing. You just frustrate the pig, and you are bound to fail.
