I'm feeling very defensive -- full disclosure.
When I bought my male, his breeder told me he was an "all-breed dog." I'm a
newbie -- what do I know???
BUT, there are TWO specialty shows in my area in a year!!
Several of the judges who have given him his points at ABS are GSD judges.
I find this chasm between the AB ring and the specialty ring offensive. Who
are you to say that because my dog won his CH in the AB ring, he's less than
your dog who did so in the specialty ring?
I can think of one GSD who's won his CH in the specialty ring that I would
not have on my property.
Yes, there are ignorant judges, and I do my BEST to avoid them. But there
are also knowledgeable judges who do a fine job.
Folks, I think this is snobbery. A dog who achieves his championship should
be judged against all the OTHER dogs who have achieved theirs -- and let the
chips fall where they may.
Do we really need to divide ourselves this way? Can we not acknowledge
quality, wherever it's found -- or not? Can we not look at the dogs,
themselves, and make our judgments, and nevermind in which venue they
finished??
