after a quick round of the blind leading the blind to find out who knows
the most of any recognisable language, it is Chump that emerges as the one
who could write the most stuff nobody else could read. whether he's faking
it or not...

so, watching the skeleton army carefully, Chump edges forward and plucks
the book from the edge of the pit. it's thick, bound in black skin of some
kind, and usually closed by a belt and clasp which is currently open.

Chump opens up the book and the party takes a look inside. the pages are
thick, old, and worn, and the dense, cryptic scrawl is not in an alphabet
anyone recognises, never mind a language.

fortunately, this isn't Army of Darkness, so the skeletons remain
motionless.

just then, there is a scraping sound from the passageway behind you.
