I didn't have the GPS coordinates handy, so I got it from Topozone, but there's a brown BLM sign that says something like Vulture Peak. From the paved road, you go west until you come to a parking area and a gate that's usually open. It's not a perfect observing site, but with what's happening to Flatiron, it's not bad IMO and it's close enough to drive home after observing. The road when heading north make a sharp right for about 250 yds then turns back north west. Does this sound like the correct area? The turnoff from Vulture Mine Road is at 33.8817 N, 112.8208 I don't recall the mile marker but there is some signage. The site is surrounded by hills in all directions and there are some desert mountains to the North and East, but I've seen Omega Centauri from there, and most of the circumpolar sky is open. It's not a perfect observing site and I certainly can't tell you that it won't eventually go the way of so many other observing sites, but it's only about another 15 minutes (or so) north of Flatiron and just an alternative. The only reason I'm mentioning it is because it's close enough that you don't have to stay the night, besides BLM has no camping signs posted there. I don?t want to abandon Flatiron only to be trying to look over the glow from the housing project that chased us out. Vulture Peak, a BLM maintained park that's about the same sky glow wise as Flatiron except that the peak is to the east which helps to block out some of the glow. Sometimes there are snowbirds parked near the paved road, but they've never been a problem. There are hikers and off roaders there during the day, but they are usually leaving when I get there. There aren't any artificial light sources in sight except for the occasional headlight flash from Vulture Mine road about a mile to the west and given that this is on BLM land it's not likely that it will get developed soon. The spot is basically a pea gravel parking lot that can accommodate 12 - 20 or so vehicles. There are a some other open spots nearby if extra parking is needed.
