I have an Ilford tech book on hand that says Delta 3200 actual speed is from 800 to 1000.

My speed was always only 800 with DDX 1 + 4. I thought the amount of grain was pretty bad at long processing times like 15 minutes and 70 degrees farhenheit. Made people's faces look diseased!

I did some testing of this film fairly recently and what I found was that it designed and marketed for use with Microphen developer.

If you expose at 3200 and then develop in Microphen Stock for 9mins @ 20degC, then you will get 3200 speed from it. It will give 4 stops below and 4 stops above metered. So a true 3200 speed film when used with Microphen as per Ilfords instructions. It's quite grainy at that speed.

Once you start using other developers, the speed drops very quickly. The next best for speed with much improved grain is DDX 1 +4 15mins @ 20degC. This will give you 4 stops below metered and 5 above when exposed using 1600. Grain is much better than with Microphen.

Others developers I tried only gave around 800 speed. I think you would get better results pushing delta 400 to 800 than trying to use delta 3200 at 800 but each to his own...
