Hi,

I agree with you that for open-air recordings the noise from the mic amp probably wouldn't be noticeable, but if you are recording a quiet guitar or a reader, believe me the hiss will be noticeable when compared to using a mic preamp. I only point this out for people who may want to use it for a range of other purposes, but I do agree that it does a pretty good job for mic recording too.

Best,

Peter

the his is not that noticable. since most people would be doing recording
out sid the ambent noise is what you are really picking up, and as to neil
he does do a good job of discribing the recording equipment he is testing
but when it comes down to testing lower quality microphones as he states he
doesn't want to cause it is always better to have high quality expensive
external microphones which most people can not aford to purchase.

Hi All,

Just responding about the audio quality of the line-in on the PTP1.

As long as you use it for a line-level input, for example from a
CD-player, tuner etcetera, or from a mic preamp, then the quality is
excellent, and probably as good as the PTR range. Neil Ewers, whom
many respect as an authority, has also endorsed its quality.

If you use it as a mic input, by plugging a mic directly into it and
switching to mic mode, then the quality is not too bad, but there is
a noticeable hiss, meaning that the built-in mic preamp is rather
noisy, so it's better to use a separate mic preamp. I've made live
recordings this way which came out very well.

I hope this helps.

Best,

Peter
