Ah, this old chestnut indeed. The big problem is, someone who started the series anywhere in books 5-12 is at a serious disadvantage, because at a minimum they had to use Helshezag to fight Darklord Gnaag and probably lost a hefty amount of EP that way. Not to mention that Helshezag would likewise be the only weapon that would give them a significant CS boost, so if they wanted to have a CS anywhere near what a new player would get, time to lose more EP.
I was always a fan of adding 10 to CS and subtracting 1 from EP when starting 13tplor to even things up.
