It's not something they advertise or give out easily. I believe, by law, they have to offer them and can only charge for processing, shipping and handling. HP sent mine for two computers here free. You need to tell them that without a restore disk, if you have a hard drive failure that you can't use the operating system that you paid for with the computer. You *can't* do it online. You have to call their help and support number. On 8/2/2003 at 7:30 PM a whisper was heard, and the one known as David Weaver was rumoured to have uttered.... | I did call them, and they wouldn't give them. | Wanted $50 dollars. The | disc by law should ship when the computer ships. The way I | understand | it they are to provide a hard copy outside of the computer. | | Dave | | -----Original Message----- | From: pctechtalk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx | [mailto:pctechtalk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Wyatt M. | Portendt | Sent: Saturday, August 02, 2003 6:57 PM | To: pctechtalk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx | Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- Re: i got a new hp puter runing win xp | | | You can get the disks for free from HP. All the recovery | stuff is | on a | | partition on the hard drive. How they get away | with this | when | | you're to | | be given a hard copy of any software they put on | is beyond | me. | | If the | | HD fails you're stuck shelling out $50 or so | dollars for a | | recovery CD | | with the OS on it. (that's after warranty). | | | | And if you ever need tech support, forget about | it. | HP/Compaq | | is worse | | than Dell in my opinion, and Dell's support is | nonexsistent. | | I've got | | customers who come to me before they ever call | Dell or | | HP/Compaq, even | | when the computer is under warranty. | | | | Dave | | -----Original Message----- | | From: pctechtalk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx | | [mailto:pctechtalk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On | Behalf Of Wyatt | M. | | Portendt | | Sent: Saturday, August 02, 2003 12:22 AM | | To: pctechtalk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx | | Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- Re: i got a new hp puter | runing win | xp | | | | | | No problem with three here, other than cleaning | all the | crap | | off them | | before I could use them.
