I guess if your personal email address is not really used for "receiving", a
service such as this would be good. That way anyone that emails you and
shouldn't first must pass the test. But, if you use the email address for a lot
of everything, SpamArrest and similar services can really be more of an
inconvenience than an aid. What more, some people, even legit people, won't
even bother, and you end up losing a possible important mail.

Thank you for letting us know.
I did ok him - and had heard of the program and so I ok'd it.

I joined a list a few weeks back and my 1st experience there was with a person
who put MAILDUSTER on their computer. The immediate response from this mail
duster program was intended to deter spammers (who weren't even receiving the
message because of their forged addresses) and the message was very very rude.
With complaints, he adjusted it to a less rude message - but still rude. He
then
removed it when it was pointed out to him that he was just letting spammers
know
that they hit a live e-mail address by responding to them. It became a very
nasty situation on the list. He was defensive, other people were ticked that
he
  was calling them names...

This spam arrest message was very 'tame' or mild mannered - and with the rise
of
spam being what it is, I can understand people trying the different programs
to
see what works for them and what doesn't. One day a while back when I was
'reading up' on spam, I read about these types of programs. I hoped that it
wouldn't come to that, but was made aware that it might, and that some large
servers were looking into that method of weeding out potential spam before it
reached their customers. If they got a human response, it would be forwarded
to
their customer. This is a problem with newsletters - and some
auto-verification
systems. They are legit, but don't have humans on the other end to respond.

I just say - it's a shame that spammers are ruining it ! I've read that in
some
offices, they've eliminated e-mails from outside the office due to spam
levels.
I found out that my husband's office monitors e-mails. I rarely send him a
joke, but I did one day, and I think it said something like 'poop' or a
similar
fairly mild use of a word for something else. Then he wrote to me on that and
I
responded back - so it came in 2X to him. He got a notification that
inappropriate use of language or something was being used! I'm sure it is
just a
word filter - and they aren't reading his mail - but it was still a surprise!!
It wasn't even a swear word - or anything terribly inappropriate. I don't
recall
  what it was now.

In regards to everyone's uprising of SpamArrest...
The matter is being dealt with. For one, this is the first time this list has
had to deal with that. In the past, we've had our share of auto-responders
that
members forgot to adjust for the list, but never a sort-of auto-responder such
as this. But, there's always a first time, and this IS that first time.

If anyone gets the SpamArrest message, go ahead and deal with it as you like.
While most have probably chosen to ignore it, some have chosen to just click
it
and acknowledge (such as myself). I'm not endorsing it, just acknowledging MY
actions. Whatever everyone else does is their business.

However, we're aware that SpamArrest is not appropriate for a list such as
ours.
I know that, the other moderators know that, and obviously now James knows
that.

In defense of that member responsible for the SpamArrest messages... let's be
fair. Its very possible that he just wasn't aware that it would be requesting
verification from each and every person posting to the list. Someone mentioned
that he can just pre-authorize everyone or pre-authorize the list. It doesn't
exactly work that easy. The verification is based on the "FROM" address, not
the
"REPLY-TO" address. PCTechTalk is the "REPLY-TO" address. The "FROM" address
is
whoever actually posts. Therefore, there really is no efficient way for him to
  pre-authorize you.

The solution is, of course, that this list cannot tolerate such a service. No
one's being punished, banned, removed or otherwise. A friendly notice was been
sent to make him aware of the problem (of which I'm sure he already knows),
and
I'm confident he'll either re-subscribe using a different addy or remove the
SpamArrest process from his current subscribed address.

Either way, the issue WILL be taken care of. But, on behalf of myself and the
other mods, I apologize for the inconvenience and hope everyone can just sit
tight for just maybe one more day.

  Thanks!

Yes, I've received it as well and the Mods are dealing with it.
    It's
a new issue and we wanted to think about it amongst ourselves
    first.
      Regards from the
    "Keyboard Cowboy",

OK an opinion here. All the person needs to do is allow the
posts coming from this list and none of us would be receive
this type of an email asking us to click a link.

The moderators should just notify the person using the service
to do this and give s/he a day or two to get the info into Spam
Arrest. If not done, then boot the person off the list.

I am not saying this to be mean -- just saying why should we be
annoyed by receiving this kind of email when it's so easy to
    correct.

By the way, I use the delete key only for Spam (LOL).
