Here's an obscure possibility. As you are booting, check to make sure your system is running at the correct speed. I installed a new motherboard and chipset and had to change the multipliers in the bios. When I booted up a week ago, they were reset to the wrong speed. . . .how or why I don't know, but I changed them back and am now "up to speed" again. ----- Original Message ----- From: andy To: pctechtalk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Wednesday, July 31, 2002 7:56 AM Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- Re: Computer is slowing down So, it's booting slowly?? Is it running ok after it's booted up, or is the system running slowly after it's booted up as well? Have you noticed it is doing this since you installed a piece of software, or has it just been a gradual thing? If it's since you installed something, try uninstalling it and see if that makes a difference. Something else to check-see what's running in the background, it could be all sorts of memory hungry apps are automatically running at start up. If you are a bit low on memory, that could be slowing things down. What else? Is your hard disc close to being full?? What OS are you running? Do you have lots of 'stuff' on the computer? I found under all o/s's up to W2000 that I put that much junk on there - trial programs, etc. that eventually the system got so slow, the only remedy was to fdisk and start afresh..If nothing else works for you, back up all your vitals and re-install Windows. BTW, did you ever crack the recording from your turntable??
