Hi Bill,

It does sound to me like these are formatting marks.  Have you tried looking
at the document in Print Preview? And do the dots still show there?
If they don't, then from the Tools menu, select Options and look at the View
tab.  The second block is Formatting Marks.  Make sure that *all* the boxes
in that section are unchecked, including the All box. If there is already a
check mark against Spaces, the Show/Hide button will show or hide other
characters but will leave the spaces showing as dots.

If that doesn't do it, then you really have got periods/full-stops replacing
each space.  You could use Replace to replace all peiods/full-stops with
spaces (though you would have to go through the document and put them back
at the end of each sentence).
