So...when you open normal.dot, it looks this way? Are you opening
normal.dot by File>Open instead of File>New?

tried that first linda. when you look at the blank page, the cursor is
all the way at the top of the screen, even in normal or print view. it
almost looks like the document opened up in web layout which the look
should change if one changes the view but it doesn't...i mean the view
changes but the cursor remains at the very top. the only thing that gets
the cursor into the body is to view header then close the header. weird,
huh? /g
