=================================
Thanks, Dave, for your response. But the leaving of Excel open after the
last workbook close did not happen to me in 2003: Excel itself was also
closed; that's why it has become frustrating in 2007.
=================================

I'm currently using 2003. My implementation stays open unless you explicitly
close it. Closing the last (or only) spreadsheet does not close the program.

For me, every other Windows program, those by MS including Word, Access,
FrontPage, PowerPoint and Publisher.

However, it might be possible to configure them to work otherwise. But
that's how they work on my particular PC.
