My thanks to all who have replied. I should have been more explicit on my first post because I didn't mention that I expected Excel to close when I clicked the program 'X' (maybe with a 'Save' prompt if appropriate) rather than the workbook 'X'. Debbie, you were spot on - but, just like David Grugeon, my installation of Excel doesn't do what yours obviously does - clicking on the program 'X' closes the workbook only leaving a 'greyed' (empty) Excel open. Word 2007 works differently and certainly Excel 2003 (which I previously had on my machine) worked differently. Incidentally, several responses mentioned the program 'X' being red - mine is not, it is simply a slightly smaller version of the black workbook 'X'. So that adds just another 'oddity' to my Excel installation! Now I'm confused as to why (apart from customizing/update level effects) the same program should both look and act differently on different machines! Thanks & Regards, Bill Hunt. ************************************************************* You are receiving this mail because you subscribed to mso@xxxxxxxxxxxxx or MicrosoftOffice@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx To send mail to the group, simply address it to mso@xxxxxxxxxxxxx To Unsubscribe from this group, visit the group's homepage and use the dropdown menu at the top.
