depending on how much data you have in the notepad file, you'd be better 
off entering that data in CSV (comma space value) format which can be 
read into just about any spreadsheet directly.

fran
pete
robert
daisy
patty
rachel
danny

can be easliy changed to:
fran, pete, robert
daisy, patty, rachel
danny

format right in notepad using a quick key sequence
<end> <delete> <comma> <space> repeat as needed, and stick in a <cr> 
when needed
save the file as a name.csv
double click on it and it will open in your default spreadsheet program

just remember that every "," in the row is a new column in the spreadsheet.
