A.J.-
Why are you keying on a one-step solution? If you paste them into Excel,
then do a Copy>Paste Special>Transpose, you will get the result you are
looking for. Is the extra step that onerous?

Subject: [mso] Excel Question
Hi All -
I posted a question about how to take two items, arranged Vertically, in
Notepad and Paste them into Excel Horizontally - in one step. Several
methods were suggested, but I still haven't made anything exactly work, in
one step.
-------------------
Here's What I was Trying to Do:
Copy Notepad Text =
Line-1
Line-2
Paste into Excel (in one step) As:
Line-2 / Line-1
-------------------
First, I want to thank everyone for their suggestions on this. Maybe it
wasn't meant to be - ? But, in case others come upon the same situation,
here's an FYI on my trials so far:
(1) Proposed: Copy Vertical Notepad Material and use 'Paste Special /
Transpose'. Result: When copying from Notepad, Excel does not give this
as an option (it only seems to allow it to be posted as vertical 'Text').
(2) Proposed: Copy from Notepad and Paste into Excel (vertically) - then
use a Macro to move the cells to the right places (see above). Result:
This worked - once. From there on, it uses specific / absolute cell
designations (from when the macro was created) and not relative cell
designation. So, all 'Line-1's went to the same exact cell.
(3) Proposed: Enter the Data into Notepad with the Key Sequence <end> <del>
<comma> <space> after the 'Line-1' (see above) and a <cr> before the next
group of items, then save the file as: name.csv and open it directly.
Result: It opens Excel and posts the 'comma delimited' data correctly (into
a new sheet). [The problem is that it has many steps: 1/ Convert the file,
2/ Save it, 3/ Close it, 4/ Open it, 5/ Copy it, 6/ Paste it to the
Main List.]
(3) Proposed: Enter text into Notepad with a <tab> between the two items
(Line-1 & Line-2) and a <cr> before the next group. Copy and Paste into
Excel. Result: It pastes the items side-by-side in one-step (with
Ctrl-V). However, it pastes them in the format: Line-1 / Line-2 - rather
than the desired order: Line-2 / Line-1 (above). This isn't perfect, but,
it's close.
The best hope I see to solve this is if a Macro can be created that uses
Relative Cells, rather than Absolute Cells. But, I don't know if this is
possible.
When I started, this seemed to be such a trivial, simple thing - but it
turns out to be more stubborn than I ever imagined. But, I hope that my
documenting this can help someone else with a similar situation.
Again, I thank all of you for the suggestions. If anyone has another
solution, I'd love to hear from you.
Thanks again,
AJ
