Lawrence Helm gave the following link and then wrote: http://www.investors.com/NewsAndAnalysis/Article/545180/201008261900/Mosques-Saudi-Patron.aspx "The Saudi individual identified as a Mosque backer has strong ties to the Muslim Brotherhood." This article is terrible, being all 'Glenn Beck' rhetoric and no reporting. For example, here is the article's discussion of the relationship between Alwaleed bin Talal and the Muslim Brotherhood: "Bin Talal is a major financier of Muslim Brotherhood fronts in the U.S" [No mention of specific organizations.] "His foundation is run by Saudi hijabi Muna Abu Sulayman" who is the daughter of a man who is claimed to be 'one of the most important figures in the history of the global Muslim Brotherhood'. [We aren't told what makes the man important, only that some members of the Muslim Brotherhood think he is important. And the reference to 'hijabi' is worth mentioning, why?] "Dr. Sulayman's U.S. offices were raided by the feds after 9/11 on suspicion of providing material support to terror groups." [No mention of charges. Apparently the mere fact that a raid happened is evidence of something.] Sulayman studied in Cairo, the city which is the headquarters of the Muslim Brotherhood. [No mention of any contact.] And the 'Glenn Beck' conclusion: "Rauf insists he's a 'healer' trying to build 'bridges' between Islam and the West. But these radical Brotherhood connections raise new suspicions." [No mention of specific suspicions.] The article establishes no connection between the Muslim Brotherhood and either bin Talal or the center. There is no evidence provided that bin Talal has supported Brotherhood charities nor is there evidence given that Sulayman, or her father, have provided support to the Brotherhood. The best the writer can do is put Sulayman in the same city as the Brotherhood and point to Rauf's work on shariah. For more information on the Saudi patron, see: http://www.foreignpolicy.com/articles/2010/08/27/the_billionaire_prince To shamelessly steal from Jon Stewart, if Lawrence were truly opposed to this Saudi patron of the Brotherhood, he should also be raising alarms about how bin Talal's other investments in the U.S., including his considerable investment in News Corp., are furthering the interests of the Muslim Brotherhood.
