I come home to an empty house. (The family are off on a trip) The dog needs stroking NOW. I need to pee NOW. And in the bathroom are the baby guppies, two, still surviving, separated from the tank so they aren't eaten, I can't tell you how much pleasure they give me. Nurturing in the face of Nature's wrath-- no, Nature's pathological absence of feeling-- is akin to the release of pee, a distinct pleasure.
