[lit-ideas] Re: Friday Poem

reasons to be cheerful one two three
crabbing
long slow meals with poetry
art and that shark falling through the oxford fellow's suburban roof
knowing and seeing
feeling and touching
living with kids
persevering
you
and even occasionally
me

my friend the architect who says
while remodeling a kitchen
to keep herself busy during life's last fight
that she needs my help with tiles
and that on friday we're invited over to watch the debate

i heard this afternoon she is so low in the water
and listing badly
mined finally by her ovaries
that we'll not be able to go tomorrow and skewer political blither over martinis together 
if indeed mccain chooses to show

so these late night words gather like friends around a fire
accounting and recounting
they are tight lipped but smiling
joyful
un-showy enough i hope
modern and contemporary forms
of premature farewell
