Hi David, I agree with all of your dilemmas as I pondered all the variables you did. Instead of the Canon 10-22 I went with the Tokina 12-24 and have found it an excellent lower cost alternative. It is extremely sharp with very little distortion and build quality is superb. When in low light situations it does hunt a bit for focus so that is when I switch it off by pulling the focus ring backward and continue on. It is a very slick solution. It is as good optically to the Leica brand lenses? Probably not but it is performing as good as my needs dictate. Colour is a very good match to my Leica lenses too which was very important to me. None of that old cold temp rendition of older Tokina lenses.
