P.S. I just looked in my startup group list where you said to look, and all
that's there is my Microtek scanner that I use with Open Book, running its
self-test. Now, I don't know if this contradicts your definition or
experience, but that scanner test runs *before* Jaws speaks, and also my
Desktop is fully up and visible before Jaws speaks, also. I'm partial,
obviously.
Does this contradict anything in your definition? Or does it imply that, all
the while, Jaws is indeed loading but is hesitating to announce that it's
ready until the scanner test has finished and the Desktop screen elements
are all in place? is fully on the screen?

Hi all, when a programme runs as a service, it runs before Windows even logs
you into your account should you have a log in dialogue box. This is why
JAWS and any other commercial screen reader can speak or braille from within
the Windows log on dialogue box. This is not the case when a programme runs
from the startup group, as these are executed after Windows is loaded and
you're on the desktop. FYI, the startup group is the startup folder, found
under Start Menu, All Programmes, Startup. Hope this helps.
