Hi Richard and Mike:
I am really a bit concerned about this.
1. This forum pumps through more information in a typical week just on PCB
than the community does on all its "Forums".
Today a few people had some thing to say and said it, some in just a
few seconds out of their busy day.
Venting in very important service that the (pcb_form) provides.
Unfortunately this will be stiffled on the website.
2. If it ain't broken, don't fix it.
3. I have participated in the proposed forum. It took 1/2 hour to reply
to a request for help when 5 minutes on email would have been easy.
a) You do not surf on this website -- you drown in it. I have a slow
line. Most websites work just fine for me with my slow line, but all
Cadence websites are so slow and carry so many levels that I spent an hour
just looking a a few items. I usually am homebased going into the office
for meetings etc.
I complained formally to Cadence about this but nothing came of it.
b) Email works well for everyone --- no fancy flashing pictures -- it
feels much more casual and informal (this I think is very important).
I will take a minute or two to reply to an email but often am too busy to
tangle with the website.
A minute or two and I do not forget what I was doing myself.
c) If you lose the link part way though your reply forget it. On email
it not a problem. You can even save if you are part way through, and get a
phone call or something, and finish your reply a couple of hours later if no
one else has replied.
4. It is now Policy that you don't need to have a support contract to
participate. We have all seen how fast Policy can change, the ICU was
supported then not.
What will the next CEO have to say. One thing about the pcb_form is that
it is independent of such policy changes.
I would say than replying by email is an absolute must have, if this thing
is going to work.
On resistance to change:
Say you were living in a suburban town house.
You go home one evening a say "Honey we are moving" and she gets all
excited and says where?
1. You get the family in your car and drive to a cabin deep in the bush
with outdoor facilities, one room, a pump on the sink, and a bucket
underneath and the best hunting and scenery one could imagine.
( YOU HAVE GOT RESISTANCE TO CHANGE BIG TIME )
2. You get the family in your car and drive to an estate in the country,
with 3 car garage, swimming pool, 4 bath rooms, sauna, marble floor
entrance, a heat pump that cools in the summer and heats in the winter, ---
get the picture.
(You have NO resistance to change "what so ever")

Hello all
While there are a lot of genuine concerns about this change, I believe
there are also genuine efforts for trying to consolidate the groups.
Now that Mike and others have had a chance to explain their viewpoint, I
think they should get credit for listening and replying.
With wanted changes that people have voiced (eg , the post / reply issue
via email ) I'm sure the CDNUsers team will do their best to accommodate
everybody. I myself will possibly have a few more suggestions on the look
and usability.
Sometimes, resistance to change is human nature, as we all know. To quote
Grandpa Simpson, "My car gets forty rods to the hogshead, and that's the
way I likes it!". However, now that everyone's had a say, let's see what
happens from here on, and get back to the core business.

The entire CDNUSERS.ORG User Community site is to bring
users of Cadence tools closer together. Yes, the PCB Forum
does exactly that but there is a large population of the community
we are not reaching. This community site is the place where
the entire Cadence community is going to go which would
act as a virtual extension of the CDNLive! Conferences worldwide.
It only makes sense to host the forums on the same site and
the utilize the infrastructure is already in place.
If I would give you a summarized answer to your question
it would be:
The cdnusers.org forums is an attempt to increase the
user-to-user interaction in a forum environment at a worldwide
level.
Is this a problem. I guess you can say Yes and No, but I am
sure there is a lot of untapped talent out in the user community
that can contribute to the forum and also benefit for the talent
we have on the PCB Forum so we are just looking to bring it
all together in one community forum.
There is a user base that have already signed up on
cdnusers.org and there has been activity on the hosted
user forums so why would we not want to join the community ?
You don't need to be on Cadence maintenance to join and
we will have access to a greater level of Cadence folks then
we every would have on the Freelist.org PCB forum.
For what I have heard today most of the issues are surrounding
the post / reply issue via email and if we correct that then the
other issues could be worked out. A lot of emails to read thru
so I may be wrong but that is what I go out of the conversations.
