Mr. Tanner,Please do not presume to know what Levelstar or any company's policies are or are not regarding what they charge and why, as you cannot know this without being directly involved. The reason I will not allow this discussion to continue on this list has absolutely nothing to do with any of the reasons you assume, but rather simply stems from the fact that I do not wish to add to the traffic of this list by encouraging quibling over dings that are an individual's private decision. If you are resistant to the price, you simply do not have to upgrade. It's that simple. As I said before, it is your perfect right to post alternative products for adding additional storage to the list. I also have no problem with someone asking about the whys and wherefores of the price if it is done in a civil manner. However, it is each and every person's individual choice as to what they feel is the best value. I will not tolerate arguing over it though, as it is not appropriate here.
To answer the question of what the cost covers, as I understand it, it covers the cost of the new drive, and the USB enclosure as well as the labor involved in changing out the hard drives in the unit, and installing the old drive in the USB enclosure. If there is more to it, I'm sure another member of the LevelStar staff will enlighten us. Again, whether it is worth it or not is a decision each of you will have to make.

Of course you are being told not to discuss this topic on the mailinglist because people from the companies involved are on the list and they do not want to know that there may be resistance to the price they want to charge. So, if you are not allowed to discuss the topic of price they can and will charge whatever theywant to charge, and insist that nobody said that they had a
problem
with the price. I don't know many companies that want end userinput as to what they should charge for their products. This
seems
to be particularly true of companies who produce assistive technology who believe that because it isn't off-the-shelf technology that they should be able to charge whatever they want.
Well, they can charge whatever they wish, but the consumer has
the
right to decide not to buy their product too.

I do have one further question on this topic. When my unit was purchased July 3, 2007,I was informed that I had the equivalent of a software/hardware maintenance agreement for one year as I am sure everyone was informed the same. If that is so, why is any price being charged for this upgrade if infact we are under a software/hardware maintenance agreement and
our
year has not expired? ----- Original Message ----- From: "kaye zimpher" <kayezimpher@xxxxxxxxxxxxx To: <icon-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Sunday, April 06, 2008 11:38 PM Subject: [icon-discuss] Re: 40gb hd?
I'd like to know why the price is quite so much and as a
consumer
of theproduct, I feel I have a right to ask. This is not about me oranyone elsenot having the money. I have 250 dollars I'd be glad to hand toLevelstarright now if they could kindly tell me, what is it about ten gbof spaceor the process of installation that makes it necessary to chargethe saidprice. Many blindness related companies no matter the good workthey havedone have been harshly criticized in the past for the horrid upchargingof their blind consumers. I'd hate to see a company with such awonderfulproduct begin to fall in to that category. We're told not todiscuss suchtopics on the list but to me the topic relates because we theconsumerusing the product need to know exactly what we will get when wesend ourproduct in for this upgrade should we choose that to be the bestchoicefor us. ----- Original Message ----- From: "David Poehlman" <poehlman1@xxxxxxxxxxx To: <icon-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Sunday, April 06, 2008 8:46 AM Subject: [icon-discuss] Re: 40gb hd?
I'm still mulling this over. $250.00 is a bit pricy for 10gb of
additional storage.
