I would call the standard C++ library a new feature - lots of new features
with lots of, until then, esoteric programming techniques that are now
widely used for good reason.

And it didn't actually introduce new features at the standardisation level
AFAIK, some of the features in the original macro implementation may have
been new (and it was a real mess), but not by the time it came to
any kind of standardisation.
